Seattle's QB is the most likely player to win Super Bowl MVP, but fading Sam Darnold at Super Bowl 2026 can be a profitable venture if you formulate a sound betting strategy.

A QB cast away more times than I've watched the timeless movie starring Tom Hanks, Darnold has the opportunity of a lifetime to enthusiastically hoist the middle finger to those who have previously discarded him. While I believe he will propel the Seattle Seahawks to glory, which I discuss in our Super Bowl 2026 predictions, I've honed in on the best ways to fade the 28-year-old. The Big Game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. (6:30 p.m. ET).

🟢 Best ways to fade Sam Darnold at Super Bowl 2026

Before recommending the best ways to fade Darnold, I'd like to make clear that I am not fading the player himself. You can see proof of that in my Seahawks vs. Patriots prediction

We all know how well shunning him went for the four teams that sent the former No. 3 draft pick packing, particularly the Minnesota Vikings, whose decision-makers must be overcome with crippling sellers' remorse after seeing the QB they discarded reach the game they've only fantasized about.

If you're looking for the best Over picks for Darnold, we've got you covered there, too: Our Dustin Saracini backs Darnold to go Over his passing yards total in his Super Bowl player props while focusing on the Over on his TD passes in his best Super Bowl same-game parlay.

Now that I've pumped Darnold's tires to a dangerously high level, let's let some air out with our best Darnold Under props.

Sam Darnold bets  Best odds Confidence

Under 29.5 passing attempts  -115 via BetMGM  ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Longest rush: Under 6.5 yards -125 via BetMGM ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Most passing yards: Sam Darnold or Drake Maye?

QB  Odds  Implied probability
Sam Darnold  -130  56.52%
Drake Maye +102  49.50%

By fading Darnold, I'm backing Maye to accumulate the most passing yards. While Darnold is the betting favorite to win this particular duel, I expect Maye to have a monstrous Big Game, and I outlined why in my 5 Super Bowl long shots to make now.

With the Maye side of the argument covered, here's the Darnold reasoning:

  • The Patriots had the 17th-ranked run defense (via DVOA) in the regular season, which should mean a heavy workload for running back Kenneth Walker III, limiting Darnold's pass attempts
  • I expect the Seahawks to enter the 4th quarter with the lead, so controlling the clock through a heavy dose of Walker will be on the menu

Our Rob Paul explored the other side of the coin, analyzing how best to fade Drake Maye in Super Bowl 2026

Fade Sam Darnold's passing attempts: Under 29.5

In 11 of 19 games, Darnold attempted fewer than 29 passes. He threw the ball 36 times against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship, tied for his second-most attempts all season.

That's not how I expect the Super Bowl to transpire as Mike Macdonald and Co. will want to employ a balanced attack, with Walker as the focal point.

Walker had 116 yards on 19 attempts against the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, which would be the Seahawks' dream scenario on Sunday. And with the Seahawks leading in the fourth quarter, at least prospectively, the game script will limit Darnold's passing attempts, helping cash the Under.

BetMGM offers -115, the best price of the best sports betting sites.

Fade Sam Darnold's longest rush yards: Under 6.5 yards

Darnold hit the Under on this 6.5-yard total in 5 of the previous 6 games and 12 of the last 15.

I'm also fading the Patriots' defense here, at least when it comes to their pass rush. That unit has enjoyed a successful playoff run in mostly inclement conditions, but had the ninth-lowest pressure rate and the fifth-lowest hurries-per-dropback rate, while accruing the seventh-fewest sacks (35), tied with four other teams, during the regular season.

That should allow Darnold to sit in the pocket and avoid doing something we all know he doesn't enjoy: running.

BetMGM offers -125 odds for the prop.
