Miami enters amid a 10-game losing streak, its fifth single-season double-digit losing streak in franchise history (first since 2011). I’m still fading the Marlins despite them being competitive throughout the losing streak that saw all of the games decided by three runs or fewer. 

Miami has egregious splits when facing right-handed versus left-handed starting pitchers. It's 10-17 against southpaws compared to 42-35 against righties. Thus, Sears should have the edge over a Marlins lineup that ranks 14th in wRC+ and slugging against southpaws, and in the bottom half in batting average.

Fernando Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI (-113)

Tatis homered in back-to-back games in the first post-All-Star Break series. It was the first time he accomplished that feat since September 2025, and he matched his home run total from the previous 19 outings. The slugger collected 10 hits in 23 at-bats over six games following the All-Star break, with 11 RBI and half of those hits going for extra bases. 

Tatis' season splits highlight how much of a tear he's been on lately. Over the first 50 games, he batted .238 with six extra-base hits, no home runs, 16 RBI, and a .595 OPS. But over the next 50, he batted .329 with 23 extra-base hits (including eight home runs), 28 RBI, and a .895 OPS.

Eury Perez has made three consecutive quality starts this month, but right-handed batters still have better slash line numbers across the board against him.

Ty France to hit a home run (+620)

Ty France entered this series on fire with six multi-hit games in his last 10. He also posted six home runs over a nine-game stretch, and the first baseman has now homered at least once in six of the team’s last eight series overall.

Since June 12 among batters with a minimum of 35 plate appearances, France entered this series with an MLB-best .822 slugging percentage against non-fastballs. Perez has allowed nine of his 13 home runs to right-handed batters (in 46 fewer at-bats than lefties), so that makes France’s home run odds even more desirable.

Anything at plus-money is great odds to back San Diego outright given Miami's huge struggles lately, as the Marlins are just 4-8 in Perez's last 12 starts. That includes a five-start losing streak against just two teams with winning records from late April to early May, when the team was playing a lot better than it is now.

I'm also intrigued by San Diego's right-handed dominant lineup since Perez has reverse splits with worse numbers against right-handed batters than lefties.

There's a significant 15-cent gap at the best MLB betting sites between Miami's shortest moneyline odds at -134 through FanDuel and the team's -149 odds at the other end of the market at bet365, which carry a 59.84% implied probability. There are plenty of believers in Miami's 10-game losing streak coming to an end today, as 58% of the early wagers have backed the Marlins' moneyline.

Currently, the best sports betting sites are in unison with an O/U of 8, with standard -110 juice on either side of the total. FanDuel is the only sportsbook to have moved as high as 8.5 overnight, but the book quickly returned to its opening number of 8 to align with the rest of the market.
