Rory McIlroy kicks off his PGA Tour season as the defending champion at Pebble Beach, Calif., but Scottie Scheffler still sits atop the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds as the clear favorite. The event tees off Thursday and runs through Sunday, with coverage airing on Golf Channel and CBS.

There's an 80-man field in attendance for the first Signature Event of the PGA Tour season. I looked at the significance of the upcoming PGA Tour schedule in my early Masters picks.

๐Ÿ”ฅBest AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am picks

Here's a look at three of my favorite picks heading into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament. I have your back when it comes to AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am first-round leader picks, too.

Top 5 finish: Justin Rose (+600)

The 45-year-old is having a massive resurgence. He already has a win in 2026 (Farmers Insurance Open), where he made history by breaking Tiger Woods' scoring record at Torrey Pines. He was unstoppable at the Farmers Insurance Open, winning by seven strokes over Ryo Hisatune and Si Woo Kim. But can he do it again? After taking a week off, all signs point toward a resounding "yes."

Rose won this event in 2023 and has some of the most consistent course history in the field. He's a "mudder" who excels when the California coast brings wind and rain - which is exactly what the forecast calls for on Sunday. Rose has one win and three top 10s at Pebble Beach, and is in great form to finish top five. I'll be sprinkling on his outright odds as well (+2700). Let's lock him in.

Top 5 finish: Rory McIlroy (+290)

While I also like Rory to take this event outright at +1400, we'll take the defending champ at +290 to finish in the top five as well. McIlroy won this tournament last year with a clinical Sunday 66 (-21), and will absolutely be in the race come the rainy Sunday. Rory started his season in Dubai with a T-3 and faded to T-33 this past weekend, but will come out of the gates hot in the States.

Top 10 finish: Sahith Theegala (+550)

To round out your card for the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, we need a high-ceiling value play. Enter Theegala, who's playing some of the best golf of his career in early 2026 and has finished T-10 in two of four events so far. Sahith is a Poa annua specialist, and should be able to hang around come Sunday. Pebble Beach is a scrambler's paradise, and Theegala has been one of the best on the PGA Tour around the green this year.

Si Woo Kim (+2450)

Sometimes, you can just see the victory coming.

Si Woo Kim has soared up to No. 256 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) with finishes of T-6, T-2, and T-3 in his last three events. While he's one of the few in this week's field who'll be playing for the fifth straight week (he also finished T-11 in the Sony Open), his current game is perfectly suited for Pebble Beach.

Kim has been the best in the field on approach lately, averaging 2.06 strokes gained with his irons over his last 12 rounds. While he isn't the longest off the tee, his accuracy more than makes up for it, and he's finished inside the top 15 at this tournament in each of the past two years.

Iโ€™m locking Kim into my 1-and-done pools this week and backing him outright at +2450 for a full unit on the opening numbers. I expect that price to shorten by the time Thursday rolls around.

Beau Hossler (+8000)

From 2022-24, Hossler was on an absolute tear in this tournament. After finishing third in 2022, Hossler came back with a T-11 and T-14 the following two events. He's been a solid putter this year, which will be absolutely huge on the Poa Annua greens this week. I'm sprinkling a .2U on him to win this tournament outright at +8000 - we all love ourselves a lottery pick.

Sam Burns (+7000)

Sam Burns has not had an ideal start to his 2026 PGA Tour season, but his talent remains undeniable.

He possesses the tools to go toe-to-toe with the top players in this field. Burns is recognized for his silky putting stroke, reliable iron play, and knack for piling up birdies once he gets into a groove. A golfer of his talent often needs just one strong round to spark confidence and build momentum. If he keeps the big mistakes off the card and takes advantage of his scoring opportunities, Burns has the potential to be in the mix this week.

๐Ÿ†š AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am favorites: Scottie (+300) or Rory (+1400)?

McIlroy tuned up for the season with two starts on the DP World Tour before returning to the PGA Tour for its first Signature Event, finishing tied for third at the Dubai Invitational and T-33 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Scheffler has also logged two appearances, notching a win at The American Express and a T-3 finish at last weekโ€™s WM Phoenix Open. Even with those results, I can't justify backing him at the much shorter +300 outright price. I'd consider Scheffler in a 72-hole matchup, but for an outright bet, I'm siding with McIlroy at +1400 to go back-to-back at this event.

๐Ÿ’ก How I'm betting the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

The first two rounds of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am are split between Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Golf Course, with half of the field playing each course Thursday and Friday. Both weekend rounds are played on Pebble Beach GL by the whole field. There is no cut in the 80-man field.

If you've ever played a golf simulator, you're likely familiar with Pebble Beach GL. The course setup is best know for small greens, copious bunkers, and thick and penal rough. When the wind is a non-factor, scores can go quite low, but a windy day is this course's best defense to the elite field it hosts. Spyglass Hill has smaller and firmer greens, and typically scores lower for its one round.

Iron play is most important, and I value a sharp short game when handicapping this event. Pebble Beach. Driving accuracy is more important than distance with Pebble Beach one of the few regular PGA Tour stops still shorter than 7,000 total yards. Hitting greens in regulation is a must.

Course stats

Here are the course stats for Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course:

Pebble Beach GL Spyglass Hill GC
Par 72 72
Yardage 6,989 7,071
Greens Poa annua Poa annua
Architect Jack Neville, Douglas Grant Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Comparable courses La Quinta CC, TPC Summerlin St Andrews, Country Club of Jackson

Key stats

Here are the key stats I use to handicap the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, with a heavy weight toward course history and past success in this particular tournament, given the one-of-a-kind fan environment and its impact on golfers:

  • Strokes gained: approach
  • Birdie or better percentage
  • Proximity from 125-150 yards
  • Strokes gained: around-the-green
  • Driving accuracy
