The 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge third-round leader prediction and odds are here at Colonial Country Club.

The tournament runs from May 28–31, 2026, and Colonial’s demanding setup places a premium on accurate ball-striking and smart course management from the opening tee shot. Unlike many of the PGA Tour’s high-scoring birdie shootouts, Hogan’s Alley has a way of separating the field quickly, which makes the third-round leader market particularly intriguing. With several top-tier players not competing this week, the betting board appears far more wide open than usual. Here are my third-round leader predictions for the Charles Schwab Challenge.

⛳ Who'll lead the Charles Schwab Challenge after Round 3?

 Hideki Matsuyama (+620)

Hideki Matsuyama enters the weekend positioned to contend for the third-round lead at the Charles Schwab Challenge after opening the tournament at 9-under par through the first two rounds. He has shown strong form with his iron play and elite ball-striking, which fits the demands of Colonial Country Club where precision and patience are rewarded over pure distance.

With momentum carrying him into moving day, Matsuyama’s consistency off the tee and ability to avoid big numbers make him a prime candidate to climb the leaderboard and potentially secure the third-round lead if he maintains control.

Akshay Bhatia (+1300)

Akshay Bhatia is in a strong position to emerge as the third-round leader at the Charles Schwab Challenge after opening the tournament at 8-under par through the first two rounds. His smooth, repeatable swing and improved iron play have translated well at Colonial Country Club, where accuracy and controlled shot-making are key.

Bhatia has also shown the ability to score in bunches when his putter gets hot, which is crucial on a course that rewards patience and precision. If he maintains his current form, he has a realistic path to climbing the leaderboard on moving day.

Russell Henley (+5500)

Russell Henley is firmly in contention to be the third-round leader at the Charles Schwab Challenge after starting the week at 7-under par through the first two rounds. His game is perfectly suited for Colonial Country Club, where precision iron play, smart course management, and steady putting typically separate the field.

Henley rarely beats himself, and his ability to consistently find fairways and give himself clean looks at birdie makes him a strong moving-day threat. If he continues to execute at this level, his consistency and control could easily push him to the top of the leaderboard heading into Sunday.

⏰️ When are first-round leader bets paid out?

The first-round leader market is decided once everyone in the field has completed their first 18 holes. This may be Friday morning in the event of a weather or darkness delay.

⛅ What to consider when betting on the third-round leader

Betting on the second-round leader of any golf tournament is far different than betting on the tournament winner or any prop market.

Here are the factors I always consider with my first-round leader picks:

  • Tee times
  • Weather
  • Course history
  • Round 1 scoring average
  • Recent form
  • Key stats for the week

The second-round leader betting market is much more volatile than the 72-hole event. As such, the odds for the tournament favorites are higher in this market, and the odds for the long shots are generally slightly shorter when betting on the 18-hole sample.

Early tee times are typically best to target for your picks. Courses are often at their softest and easiest, with no divots in the fairways or wear on the greens. But the weather can significantly change that line of thought. Monitor the weatherto be sure your desired golfers will be dodging the worst of the rain and wind, should any be in the forecast.

I also greatly reduce my timeframe when looking at recent performance entering Thursday's first round.

Saturday's weather at Colonial Country Club
