πŸ’° Best NRFI bets today for Wednesday

Royals vs. Guardians NRFI (-150) - 1:10 p.m. ET

  • Cole Ragans (3.60 ERA) vs. Joey Cantillo (3.00 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Royals (8-3) vs. Guardians (10-2)

These two teams are on a NRFI heater, with the Royals cashing in back-to-back games, and the Guardians failing to score in the first frame in 10 straight. Enter Ragans, who's held Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan to a combined 5-for-26 against him. That'll play. Joey Cantillo for the Guardians owns some solid numbers against the Royals, too, limiting Kansas City to a .217 xBA across 44 plate appearances. Let's win our fourth straight NRFI with this one.

Dodgers vs. Blue Jays NRFI (-135) - 3:07 p.m. ET

  • Shohei Ohtani (0.00 ERA) vs. Dylan Cease (2.79 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Dodgers (7-4) vs. Blue Jays (6-5)

Now usually I don't play around with the Dodgers' top three hitters, but we've got a pair of aces on the bump today, so we're going to take advantage of some of the value we're seeing in Toronto. I'd price this one closer to -150 - Cease is generating swing and misses with the best in the game once again (96th percentile), and strikes this Dodgers' lineup out nearly 30% of the time. If he can work around Ohtani (10-for-26 vs. Cease) in the first, I like our chances. On the other side, I'm expecting Ohtani to dice this struggling Blue Jays offense in the first.

Andrew Brennan is also targeting this game with his MLB player props today. He also dropped his home run predictions today for those looking to bet on some hump-day bombs.'

Tigers vs. Twins NRFI (-135) - 7:40 p.m. ET

  • Framber Valdez (0.75 ERA) vs. Bailey Ober (6.75 ERA)
  • NRFI records: Tigers (7-4) vs. Twins (10-1)

Detroit's Framber Valdez is the primary anchor for this bet; he's a premier groundball specialist who shouldn't have an issue against a team that's scored in the first inning just once this year. On the other side, although Bailey Ober has struggled recently, he's facing a Tigers lineup featuring Riley Greene and Gleyber Torres, both of whom can't hit a beach ball right now. With the temperature at Target Field expected to be a cool 51 degrees, the heavy air should further suppress power in the opening frame.

πŸ’‘ How I'm betting NRFI picks today (April 8)

Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.

No matter the day, I look at how a pitcher matches up specifically to the lineup he's taking on. What's their expected batting average against him? What's their strikeout rate? More specifically, how do the top three batters fare against a specific pitcher? These are all thoughts that need to run through your mind before placing a high-variance bet like a NRFI, and slide your units accordingly.

❓ NRFI betting FAQ

What does NRFI mean in baseball betting?

NRFI stands for "No Run First Inning." It's a popular MLB bet that neither team will score in the first inning of a game, and the bet settles after just six outs (three per half-inning).

What does YRFI mean?

YRFI stands for "Yes Run First Inning" - the opposite of an NRFI. This MLB prop bet cashes if there's at least one run by either team in the first inning.

What should I look for when betting NRFIs?

Each team's starting pitcher is the biggest factor in cashing a NRFI bet, but you should also focus on each team's NRFI records (home vs. away) and each lineup's first-inning tendencies. Recent form can also play a bigger role than full-season numbers.
