🏀 UConn vs. Michigan Prediction & Picks: March Madness Championship Preview
Last Updated: April 5, 2026 1:49 PM EDT • 5 minute read X Social Google News Link
There's one final game on the biggest stage as the NCAA Tournament championship pits the best coach in the country, UConn's Dan Hurley, against the best team in the country, Michigan, on Monday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (8:50 p.m. ET, TBS/truTV/HBO Max).
While Hurley's track record is unmatched, my UConn vs. Michigan prediction is backing the better team to pull off a decisive win to close out March Madness.
The Wolverines are a 6.5 to 7.5-point betting favorite, and my March Madness predictions project a sixth straight double-digit win for Dusty May and Co.

🏆 Who will win UConn vs. Michigan in the championship?
See the latest March Madness odds for the championship game.
Though Hurley is undefeated in his career after the first weekend of March Madness, this Michigan team is different. The Wolverines have the highest net rating since KenPom began tracking in 1997 (+39.72), and they've won their five NCAA Tournament games by an average margin of 21.6 points. That's why I expect Michigan to keep on rolling and beat UConn by 10 points.
Score prediction: Michigan 76, UConn 66
💰 UConn vs. Michigan prediction & championship best bet
Michigan -6.5 (-110)
Michigan is the only team in the country ranked top four in offensive efficiency (No. 4) and defensive efficiency (No. 1), and it has the interior defense to stop a one-dimensional UConn offense.
With Aday Mara protecting the rim, the Wolverines are No. 1 nationally in effective field-goal percentage allowed (44.8%). If UConn can't rely on Tarris Reed Jr.'s inside game, they'll be in trouble.
Since the beginning of the tournament, the Huskies are No. 21 in offensive efficiency, No. 37 in effective field-goal percentage (50.9%), No. 47 in 3-point percentage (31%), and No. 79 in free-throw rate (42.6%).
📡 SBR Edge: Historically dominant on both ends
Despite being known as a defensive juggernaut, Michigan's offense has been even better in the NCAA Tournament. Ranking top five since the beginning of March Madness in offensive efficiency (138.7), effective field-goal percentage (63.4%), and 3-point percentage (44.5%).
This Wolverines team is a win away from going down as one of the best in the history of college basketball. They're the first team to score 90-plus points in five NCAA Tournament games, and they tied the largest margin of victory in a game between No. 1 seeds in the win over Arizona.
🔥 Best UConn vs. Michigan player prop bet: Championship 2026
Braylon Mullins Under 11.5 points (+105)
Michigan's defense is anchored by its frontcourt, but the Wolverines' perimeter defense is nearly as strong, allowing opponents to shoot 30.5% from behind the arc this season. That spells trouble for Braylon Mullins, who is hitting just 29% from deep in the NCAA Tournament.
While Mullins did nail the impossible three to beat Duke and had his best March Madness performance in the Final Four, the freshman has shown his youth against top-ranked defenses.
In nine games this season against defenses ranked in the top 15 in efficiency, Mullins has gone over 11.5 points just once while averaging 9.8 PPG on 31.2% shooting from three.
With fellow 3-point specialist Solo Ball dealing with a foot sprain that could limit him, Michigan will be able to key in even more on slowing UConn's floppy sets that open Mullins up in this screen-heavy offense.
🚀 UConn vs. Michigan same-game parlay: Championship 2026
Michigan has been blowing teams out all NCAA Tournament, and while I expect a decisive win against UConn, scoring 90-plus for a sixth straight game seems unlikely. This is going to be a bar fight in the first half, and I have a hard time seeing either team crossing 80 points when it's all said and done.
Both teams are top 10 in defensive efficiency, and UConn's average combined game total in the NCAA Tournament is just 138.2 points. It's gone Under 144.5 in three of its last four March Madness matchups.

💡 How I'm betting UConn vs. Michigan: Championship strategy
Follow all of our college basketball analysis and expert predictions for March Madness.
This game is going to have people saying, "Well, that was obvious," regardless of the outcome. If Michigan wins, it will be obvious because this Wolverines team is on track to go down as one of the best ever. If UConn wins, it will be obvious because Hurley doesn't lose games in March, with the program being 11-0 ATS in the Sweet 16 or later under him.
I will always lean on advanced stats over narratives or trends, which is why I'm going with the "obvious" bet of backing Michigan to win and cover in another NCAA Tournament game. I love Michigan -6.5, and while I'm more hesitant to back the Wolverines at -7.5, which some of our best March Madness betting sites are offering, I'd even still take them at that number.
This is the national championship, so I'm putting a full unit on every straight bet I make, including taking the Under (which I'd bet at anything above 142) and fading Mullins (I wouldn't bet his Under on points at any price shorter than -120, though).
📊 Live UConn vs. Michigan odds: Championship 2026
There's already been serious movement since Michigan opened as a 6.5-point betting favorite at our best sports betting sites late on Saturday night. Within an hour of the Wolverines opening at -6.5, the line moved to -7.5 at pretty much every major sportsbook.
It's starting to shift back now, and I could still see it moving to -5.5 by tip on Monday night. Between UConn's blue blood and Hurley's recent success, the public seems to like the Huskies to cover, with 57% of bettors already backing them. For Michigan bettors, it might be worth holding out to see if you can get the Wolverines -5.5. But with Yaxel Lendeborg expected to play, that's unlikely.
As for the game total, it's bounced between 144 and 145.5, but 72% of the public is on the Over, so again it could be worth waiting to bet if you like the Under.
