⚔️ Real Madrid's quest for vengeance: Benfica vs Madrid rematch
Don't miss the rest of our soccer picks for every game this season.
This is bound to be a cagey rematch, as things were rough last time they met. But the 4-2 scoreline didn't tell the whole story of the game for so many reasons. Benfica scored one from the spot, and another was netted by their keeper after Madrid had two players sent off in the stoppage time. And Benfica needed that goal to sneak into the playoffs.
I expect things to be played tight in the first half, but for Real Madrid to take control in the latter stages. Trent-Alexander Arnold and Antonio Rudiger should be available to Real this time around, shoring up a backline that struggled last time around. Our Gary Pearson also backs Madrid in his Champions League predictions.
Leg 1: Real Madrid to win (-110)
💡 More moneylines, more parlays
Our Gary Pearson broke down another Champions League SGP, and a moneyline is the cornerstone there, too. His PSG vs. Monaco same-game parlay breaks down why the Parisians will win, and builds to a +380 payday.
🦅 Golo! Gol!
There is plenty of firepower on both sides here for this to hit. Jose Mourinho will know his men can't expect to just park the bus in the home leg of this tie, a 0-0 draw won't suit his club heading to Spain for the second leg. Benfica will look to utilize its transition game against a midfield without Jude Bellingham (hamstring).
On the contrary, little more is needed to be said than Kylian Mbappe. The French international has netted 13 goals already in the tournament.
Leg 2: Over 2.5 goals (-163) | Parlay total: +150
‼️ Confirmed starting XI
Benfica: Trubin (GK) - Otamendi - Araujo - Dahl - Dedic - Silva - Aursnes - Barreiro - Pavlidis - Schjelderup - Prestianni
Real Madrid: Courtois (GK) - Huijsen - Rudiger - Carreras - Alexander-Arnold - Tchouameni - Valverde - Camavinga - Guler - Vini Jr. - Mbappe
📝 Finding the scoresheet
It continues to build into the plan. With Bellingham out and Rodrygo suspended, there will be additional focus on Vinicius Junior as the creative spark for the visitors. And that's okay: he's playing with peak confidence and is coming off a two-goal game against Real Sociedad.
Vini Jr. is tied with a handful of players leading the Champions League with four assists, and he should be primed to find the score sheet one way or another against a Benfica side that allowed two or more goals in four of their either League phase games.
Leg 3: Vinicius Jr. to score or assist (-138) | Parlay total: +200
🟨 Finding the....statsheet
Instead of goals and assists, lets look at bookings and identify our favorite three to get booked today
- Aurelien Tchouameni (Real Madrid) - he's going to be tasked with cleaning up counter-attacks, and could over-commit
- Alvaro Carreras (Real Madrid) - a former Benfica player, with four yellows in 21 La Liga starts
- Nicolas Otamendi (Benfica) - slower in his age, will have hands full with Mbappe and Vini Jr.
🚀 Firing away: bonus pick
We mentioned that parking the bus won't be an option for Mourinho's side, and that means taking chances. Vaneglis Pavlidis is a focus point for Benfica, and he's been firing away and firing on all cylinders since the calendar flipped to 2026. The Greek national has fired at least three shots in six of his last eight games (having four shots on four occasions). In the other two games, he still blasted two shots.
We're going to bank on him to get three shots off as Benfica pushes for a result, and given he'll likely play the full 90 he should be set to hit his season average of 3.2 shots/90.
Bonus leg: Vangelis Pavlidis 3+ shots (+110)
💸 Boost the SGP
Adding this play to the base Benfica vs. Real Madrid same-game parlay boots the odds to +500, profiting $50 on a winning $10 bet.
