Perhaps none of the host nations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will have as much of a home soil boost as Mexico. El Tri will get three games on home turf, playing in front of raucous crowds and at familiar elevation. How do those factors affect the Mexico World Cup odds? We're going to dig in and find out.

Like co-hosts USA and Canada, Mexico hasn't named its final World Cup squad. A preliminary squad was announced a couple of weeks ago, and some cuts have already been made, but Javier Aguirre still has work to do. Can Mexico outperform its +8000 odds to shock the world? Will the hosts impress as they did in previous tournaments they hosted?

🏆 Mexico World Cup 2026 predictions and best bets

Mexico to be eliminated in the round of 16 (+180)

Mexico doesn't share the same bracket benefits that co-hosts USA and Canada have, but they do have the benefit of playing on home soil at their high-altitude stadiums. Teams native to high altitudes have been found to have upwards of a 30% greater probability of winning against opponents who play at sea level. Studies have found that each 1,000-meter increase in altitude increases the home team's goal difference by about 0.5 goals.

Javier Aguirre has shifted to a play style that excels in the low-oxygen environments the hosts will play in, but it will only carry you so far. Winning Group A and getting past the Round of 32 would set them against England in the Round of 16. That's not a great matchup; Mexico's good, England is great.

Mexico will likely have to clash with the No. 4 or No. 6 ranked team in the world to advance past the Round of 16. That spells the end of the road, elevation edge or not.

🔬 SBR EDGE: The Tactical Unlock

The Pick: Mexico to be eliminated in round of 16 (+180)

The Why: Mexico often shifts to a pragmatic 4-5-1 low-block under Aguirre when facing elite nations, and they lack the lateral recovery speed to track the elite verticality of Brazil or England when they do so.
