More than a decade after the most-anticipated fight of the century, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to square off (again) in September for the first-ever professional boxing match at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Mayweather is the heavy betting favorite with -190 moneyline odds at BetMGM.

The fight was announced Monday by Netflix, which will stream the bout live on Saturday, Sept. 19, between the two best fighters of this generation. Mayweather has never lost a professional fight and will carry a perfect 50-0 record into this officially sanctioned bout, his first in nine years, as Pacquiao looks for revenge for that 2015 loss to his longtime rival.

Here's a look at everything you need to know before these two face off in September:

Ever since Mayweather's underwhelming win by decision over Pacquiao in 2015, the two legendary boxers have been at the center of rumors about a potential rematch, but it felt like it simply may never come to fruition with both fighters approaching 50 years old.

Then came Monday's announcement that, after 11 years, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao would finally get the rematch that many have been clamoring for.

“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao, 47, said Monday after the announcement. “The fans have waited long enough - they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”

“I already fought and beat Manny once," said Mayweather, who turns 49 on Tuesday, after winning by decision back in 2015. "This time will be the same result."

📅 When is the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch?

Mayweather and Pacquiao will face off on Saturday, Sept. 19 from the Sphere in Las Vegas, marking the first time the famed venue has hosted a professional boxing match.

We're still awaiting an official time for the bout, but we can assume it'll begin late in the evening with a packed undercard starting sometime around 8 p.m. ET. It will be an officially sanctioned boxing match between Mayweather and Pacquiao, whose last bout in 2015 took place in Las Vegas and began around midnight ET.

We also don't yet know the weight class for this rematch. The first fight was for the welterweight title in 2015, so both fighters would need to check in at 147 pounds for that to be the case in this September rematch.

🔙 What happened in the first Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight?

If you missed the first bout between these two back in 2015 - a fight that captured the attention of the entire sports world - you missed out on a colossal disappointment relative to the "Fight of the Century" billing for what was ultimately a dud.

While Mayweather was the most accomplished fighter entering that first match between arguably the greatest boxers of this generation, he hardly needed to throw a bunch as he danced around the ring as Pacquiao unleashed a cascade of mostly ineffective blows.

By the end of the match - which drew $72 million in ticket sales and a record-setting 4.6 million pay-per-view buys - Mayweather was declared the victor by a unanimous and ultimately controversial decision from the three judges. Many felt Pacquiao has landed enough punches to justify and reward his aggressive posture compared to Mayweather, whose defensive approach killed the intensity of the fight but kept his record intact.

After their first fight in 2015, Mayweather fought twice more before officially retiring in 2017 after beating Conor McGregor in a 10th-round TKO. He's since competed in multiple exhibition bouts and is set to face Mike Tyson in an exhibition this spring, at which point he'll officially unretire ahead of his September showdown with his former rival.

Pacquiao has been more active since that famed 2015 bout, retiring in 2016 and 2021 with political runs after each hiatus before ultimately returning to the ring. His last official bout came seven months ago, when he fought to a majority draw with WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in a fight many felt should have been ruled in Pacquiao's favor.

💰 Why is Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 happening?

The same reason any boxing match happens: money. The first fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao reportedly netted somewhere between $300 million and $400 million for the two fighters, who have both made headlines for financial issues in recent years.

Pacquiao's financial woes have been well documented and extensive over the last decade, claiming that money was the reason for ending his previous retirement after expensive political campaigns in the Philippines and a long-documented battle with the IRS. In 2024, he claimed to need to borrow money to donate to relief causes on the island because his bank accounts had been frozen.

Mayweather is also embroiled in financial controversy after filing a lawsuit earlier this month against Showtime for $340 million he says is owed to him from his career purse. He's also the subject of multiple lawsuits alleging a failure to pay rent and millions of dollars' worth of jewelry.

Given the record-setting returns for other Netflix events in recent years, including Jake Paul's fights against Mike Tyson (2024) and Anthony Joshua (2025), it's easy to see why both boxers would have an appetite to meet again in the ring this September.

🏆 Who will win Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2?

The primary reason Mayweather is favored is that his defensive, counter-punching style ages significantly better than Pacquiao’s aggressive, high-volume approach.

Mayweather's game is built on the Philly Shell defense and elite footwork, which rely on timing and IQ rather than raw explosive power. While Pacquiao's legendary vicious speed naturally declines with age, Mayweather's ability to read an opponent and minimize damage remains largely intact. Even at 49 (his age on fight night), Floyd's "hit and don't get hit" philosophy ensures he can control the pace of a 12-round fight without needing to engage in a physical war.
